Wolverine Ski
Club Registration at Holland Patent Middle School
Posted November 19, 2008
The Wolverine Ski Club youth cross country
skiing signups will take place December 3rd and 10th at the Holland
Patent Middle School in Room 208 from 5pm-6:30pm.
The program is open to children ages 6-13
and focuses on skiing fundamentals, games, touring and racing. Everyone
who joins will become a member of the local Wolverines Ski Club and
statewide Bill Koch Youth Ski organization. Snow permitting, the program
this year will run from January 8th through March.
The Wolverines will be skiing at the New
York State Bill Koch Festival in February in Lake Placid. Over 100 youth
skiers and their families will meet for 2 days of races, ski
orienteering, biathlon clinics, ski games, awards and prizes. Membership
in the Wolverines Ski Club entitles you to ski at the festival and other
youth races across the state.
The program fee is $30 per
child or a maximum of $90 per family (adults included). The cost for
first-year skiers is $15 and includes membership in the Wolverine Ski
Club. Adults are welcome and encouraged to ski along with their
children. Some equipment (skis and poles) may be available this year.
Skiing will take place at the Trenton Fish and Game Club on Thursdays
from 3:30-4:45 pm. For more information call Steve Smith at 896-2814 or
Charles LaMendola at 896-2846.

Skiing is just around the corner so save
these dates for club events:
The kids' ski program will continue on
Thursdays after school. Signup information should be out soon but if you
renew your membership you are automatically in the program. We'll start
at the Game Club after Christmas but maybe sooner at school if there is
early snow. We'll try to add some Sunday afternooon sessions where we
can.
- 12/20 Family ski
outing on the BREIA trails in Alder Creek or onJackson Hill,
depending on conditions
- 12/29 Family outing
to Lapland Lake ski resort...just a little over an hour away
- 3/7 We are hosting a
citizens' race and kids races at the Game Club
- 3/8 Women's Clinic at
the Game Club taught by Helen Smith
- 4/4 End of season
family outing on the Breia trails....pot luck lunch
There will probably be another Bill
Koch/Kids race at the Game club which we'll schedule once the High
School ski schedule is out.
This year we will start an equipment
program where the club will purchase some junior skis and poles to loan
out for the winter. The skier will be able to use the skis and poles at
no charge. In exchange the skier will purchase boots (we will have a
matching boot available at a discount) to be turned in to the Club at
the end of the year. We will then have a pool of boots to loan out in
following years as the old boots are outgrown.
Please send in the attached membership
forms soon. You'll need to join NYSSRA as well not only because they
provide our insurance but you will be entitled to ski in their events
including the Bill Koch Festival and Empire State Games, both at the
Olympic venue in Lake Placid. Nyssra is free for first time members up
to age 13.
Note there is no skiing in the Game Club
until hunting season ends around 12/20. We usually start grooming at the
holidays.
We may need some volunteers for trail
work Saturday 11/1 at the Game Club.....more to follow.

Trail work at Trenton Fish and Game Club - Sat Dec 23
We have a trail cleanup
tentatively scheduled for Saturday 12/23 at 8:30 am at the Fish
and Game Club. There are several large trees to cut up.
Logging created some significant ruts in one area which Matt
Kimek has volunteered to smooth out with his backhoe. We also
have a few stumps to pull up. If we have enough chainsaws and
help I don’t think it will take more than 2-3 hours.
